To the Parent:

You have the difficult choice of how to spend your time and money to the best benefit of your son or daughter. I am committed to the development of my students not only musically, but also intellectually and socially. The practice skills I teach are a combination of analytical skills and personal integrity. The poise and concentration we cultivate behind the instrument will serve your young musician well. Understanding of musical history, style, and context helps your son or daughter to find meaning in what they hear, to seek out what moves them, and to keep music as a permanent resource in their adult lives.

I encourage parental involvement in my students' lessons and practice sessions. When appropriate (especially with the younger students) this involvement can be a unique and positive interaction between parent and child.
